Twitching at the Lincolnshire coast

The Lincolnshire Country Coastal Park provides the perfect backdrop for bird watching at the Lincolnshire coast. Spanning 5 miles, this park passes through 8 Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust nature reserves, each providing the ideal habitat for hundreds of birds.

In winter, you can expect to find lapwing, bearded tit, white-fronted goose, golden plover, whooper swan, curlew, redshank, Bewick’s swan, wigeon, teal, gadwall, and bittern.

In spring, you can find species such as whitethroat, sedge warbler, cuckoo, reed warbler, Cetti's warbler, and grasshopper warbler.

In summer, keep a look out for redshank, marsh harrier, hobby, sandwich tern, avocet, lapwing, green sandpiper, ringed plover, common tern, and greenshank.

In autumn, bird watchers can spot short-eared owl, common scoter, hirundines, gannet, shearwaters, divers, auk, finches, and starling.

Protected habitats

The Lincolnshire coast is home to several nature reserves, all offering protected habitats for a diverse range of native wildlife and plants. With guided trails, bird hides, and educational programs, these reserves offer an engaging space to experience a rich wildlife ecosystem.

Visit Donna Nook Nature Reserve in November or December to witness its resident grey seal colony give birth to their pups. This spectacular annual event is a favourite with visitors, offering the opportunity to witness something unlike anything else.

Gibraltar Point is a popular nature reserve throughout the year. This impressive site provides a scenic backdrop for natural coast walks in the refreshing sea air, no matter the weather. The reserve is also home to a visitors centre and café where you can find information about the local ecosystem, or enjoy a warming drink, light lunch, or sweet treat.

Big Sky Alpacas and Wren Farm provide the opportunity to get up close and learn all about these fuzzy friends before taking them on a walk across their sites!
