Tackling waste on the Lincolnshire Coast

Last spring bank holiday saw the beaches filled with thousands of people making the most of the English sunshine...

However when everybody packed up and made their way home they seemed to forget to take everything with them... including nappies, cans, plastic bottles, chip trays, crisp packets, just to name a few! After numerous beach clean ups from East Lindsey District Council we decided we could not let the same thing happen this bank holiday so we put some measures in place!

Together with ELDC we created over 5,000 degradable rubbish bags which we distributed to start with along Skegness Seafront -along with additional bins! With fantastic feedback from visitors and locals we feel this was a huge success in reducing waste on our coastlines! We are a county full of Blue Flag status beaches and we do not want this to change, along with the safety of marine life which is greatly affected by unwanted plastic in our oceans!
