Practicing mindfulness isn’t just for adults – it can have huge benefits for children of all ages too. We’ve gathered a few ideas for family-friendly mindfulness activities during your trip to the Lincolnshire Coast.
If you’d like to teach your kids how to ground themselves in the moment and pay more attention to their surroundings, why not try the five senses exercise? Try guiding them to notice five things within their sight (such as the tide washing in), four things they can feel (maybe the sand is tickling their toes), three things they can hear (are the seagulls being noisy?), two things they can smell (perhaps a chippy isn’t too far away...), and one they can taste (such as the salty sea air!).
By teaching your kids to move mindfully, they start to identify how their body feels. If you’re visiting an animal sanctuary or reserve along the coast, why not find a quiet area and ask them to imitate animal poses or movements? Or, why not head to the beach and focus on dancing, walking, jumping or kicking – these movements make kids stay in the present moment which will benefit them later in life.
If you have a budding artist with you, why not bring along some colouring pencils and ask them to draw what they see? This is a great way of teaching them to pay attention to their surroundings whilst having fun. Or, if you want to bring less supplies, why not ask them to use their finger or a stick and draw whatever they are thinking or feeling in the sand?
During your visit to the Lincolnshire Coast, why not create a nature scavenger hunt? It is not only a great way to help kids learn more about their surroundings and explore nature, but also a peaceful activity that keeps them present whilst allowing them to focus on details such as leaf shapes, colours of flowers or the texture of shells.
By teaching your kids to be more mindful and present, it can not only benefit them in the future but also make your trips much more enjoyable whilst creating memories to cherish for years to come!
