Opened in 2018, the North Sea Observatory is a captivating marine observatory and visitors centre perched on top of sand dunes overlooking the North Sea coastline. Located at Chapel Point in the seaside village of Chapel St. Leonards, The North Sea Observatory is the UK's only purpose-built marine observatory. The observatory features an exhibition and art space alongside a café with floor-to-ceiling panoramic views overlooking the sea. The observatory provides visitors with breathtaking coastal views throughout the year, designed to offer a unique and informative experience for those interested in natural environments, wildlife, and the coastal ecosystems in Lincolnshire.
The visitors centre houses informative exhibits focussed on the diverse wildlife and geological features along the Lincolnshire coastline, with interactive displays aiming to raise awareness of the importance of conserving these fragile ecosystems. The North Sea Observatory is also popular with birdwatchers, serving as a great spot for viewing wildlife. The elevated position of the observatory provides an excellent vantage point for spotting rare species of birds. Binoculars can be picked up at the café for viewings. The on-site Seascape Café is a great spot to enjoy a refreshment and soak in the stunning views, either in front of the panoramic glass windows or outside on the terrace. The cafe serves hot drinks, snacks, light lunches, breakfasts, and daily cakes and traybaked delights.
