The vibrant seaside town of Mablethorpe is a destination perfect for families seeking the classic seaside experience. Enjoy an expansive array of family friendly attractions from water sports to wildlife centres. Alternatively, you could spend hours on Mablethorpe’s expansive beach that stretches for two miles and offers golden sands the whole way.
Based just one mile from Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire Aquapark offers adrenaline inducing water activities in their on-site lake, which stretches over eighty metres in length, and is claimed to be one of the largest aquaparks in the world.
There are three main activities at the aquapark. The star attraction is the floating aquapark with a total wipeout inspired course, as well as a giant cyclone spinning wheel, and a 5-meter-high Jungle Joe climbing pyramid. When the aquapark is closed the lake offer paddleboarding and kayaking experiences, as well as paddleboarding instructor sessions so you can participate whatever your skill level.
Children between 5-8 years old must be accompanied by an adult, but the activities are plenty of fun for everyone. After all the excitement you can refuel at the on-site Costa Coffee or bar and restaurant The Badgers Barn.
Located on Mablethorpe’s beachfront, the Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary & Wildlife Centre is a great place for young children and wildlife enthusiasts with a variety of friendly animals to meet.
The centre’s main goal is to protect injured grey seals found on the Lincolnshire coastline, as well as other wildlife from lemurs to birds of prey. Plenty of engaging and interactive talks take place throughout to day to keep you entertained and learn more about the animals in the sanctuary and the great work being done to preserve them.
You can immerse yourself even further by becoming a Zookeeper for a day with the ‘Keeper for the Day’ experience. This packed day includes unforgettable experiences like feeding the seals, meeting the meerkats, and other behind the scenes activities that keep the centre running.
Hidden behind the promenade, Queens Park has a variety of family activities all conveniently in one place. Enjoy a trip out onto the boating lake, or if you prefer dry land go for a ride on the miniature railway. Let out your competitive side with a game of bowls on the green, tennis on the tarmac court, a round of crazy golf, or an 18-hole putting course.
Kids can burn off plenty of energy in the play area and free paddling pool, fitted with a variety of fountain hoses too keep everyone cool in the heat of summer. Plenty of eateries can be found to recharge after all the excitement such as Linda’s Pavilion Café near the paddling pool, and the Wild Goose Pub at the sound end of the park.
Take a stroll on Mablethorpe’s delightful beach. Sporting golden sands and diverse sand dunes which back onto a pleasant promenade, you could easily spend hours here. The beach often hosts events and activities such as donkey rides, sandcastle competitions, firework displays, and bike races. Mablethorpe has plenty of seaside amusements on the doorstep of the beach, like arcades and mini golf, all of which are a great way to break up your visit.
Mablethorpe beach’s waters are known to house jellyfish so be cautious if entering the water. There is a lifeguard service during the summer season, but still be sure to read our guide to beach safety and adhere to best safety practices.
The Southern side of the beach facing Sutton is generally quieter, and as such allows dogs all year round, so the whole family can enjoy a beach day. The main central portion of beach is a dog-free zone from 1st May to 30th September.
