Places to enjoy fish & chips on the Lincolnshire Coast

There's plenty to be excited for when visiting the coast - from building sandcastles or kicking back with a good book, to listening to the peaceful sound of the waves crashing onto the beach, the coast has plenty to please everyone. For many, the true highlight of a trip to the coast is savouring a classic serving of fish & chips. You just can’t beat perfectly crisp battered fish, piping hot, fluffy chips, and maybe even a battered sausage or generous pot of curry sauce. This can all be enjoyed whilst gazing over stunning ocean views - perhaps keeping an eye out for swooping seagulls. It's a tradition that's as timeless as it is delicious, so take a look at some of the chippies the Lincolnshire Coast has to offer.

Skegness

Atlantic Fish Bar & Diner

Located on Beresford Avenue, just past the many shops on Lumley Road and a few minutes from the seafront, the Atlantic Fish Bar & Diner makes for the perfect stop after a stroll on the beach and browsing the shops.

When you step into the restaurant you will be greeted with an array of historic pictures showing off Skegness’ seaside heritage and history. When you sit down to order your meal you can expect to choose from a selection of pies, burgers, various seaside classics, and of course the fish including cod, haddock, and plaice. All fish is fresh and delivered directly from Hull and Grimsby.

If you want to take your meal along to beach and look out to the ocean, then feel free to use Atlantic’s takeaway which offers the most desirable items from their restaurant menu.

Atlantic’s true highlight is their gluten free food offering! With a separate menu and dedicated gluten free fryer and cooking utensils, you can rest easy as you enjoy a seaside treat.

Trawler’s Catch

Right next to the Skegness Clocktower on Grand Parade your eyes will be drawn to the Trawler’s Catch, thanks to the impressive pirate theming including lifelike pirate models, canons, ship steering wheels.

Once inside you’ll be spoilt for choice as you order from a variety of fish & chips, burgers, pizzas, kebabs, pies, and all the other seaside savoury treats you would expect.

Enjoy the nautical theming from the ample indoor seating, or soak in the sun and sights of the local attractions as you enjoy your meal on the outdoor picnic tables.

Papa’s Fish & Chips

Conveniently located on Lumley Road, between the beach and shopping in Skegness town, Papa’s makes for a great pitstop during a day at the coast. Papa’s first restaurant opened in 1966, and thanks to their delicious food, now has 11 restaurants across the UK. Indoor and outdoor seating is available, so you can enjoy your meal whatever the weather. You can also take advantage of Papa’s takeaway service to enjoy your fish & chips as you stroll the seafront.

Sustainability is important to Papa’s so future generations can enjoy this seaside delight. Their haddock and cod are caught in Norway, and are MSC accredited, meaning they are sustainably sourced and can even be tracked to the ship that caught them. Papa’s only use potatoes sourced from Lincolnshire and Yorkshire, supporting local producers.

Papas are also certified to offer gluten free options, which are available every day, and work with coeliac UK. All gluten free meals are prepared with sperate stations, dryers, utensils, and chefs to ensure the least risk of cross contamination as possible.

Ingoldmells

Popin Fish & Chips

Towards the edge of Fantasy Island, you’ll find plenty of eateries to fuel up after your thrill-seeking adventures, but Popin Fish & Chips knows how to stand out. You can expect to enjoy traditional fish & chips at Popin’s. If the sky is grey and taking your meal outside is the last thing on your mind, you can relax in Popin’s cosy indoor dining room.

There are always clear blue skies inside Popin, thanks to their artificial sky. The sky is comprised of multiple fixtures, which invoke the feeling of sitting under the sun on the seafront. Regardless of the weather, it's always a sunny day at the seaside with Popin’s!

Mrs M's Traditional Fish & Chips

This chippy has two locations; the first being just opposite Fantasy Island’s Castaway Bar, and the other underneath the Millennium roller coaster. You’ll find delicious traditional fish and chips made from fresh Grimsby and Hull fish, using an old family recipe from the early 1900s. Mrs M’s ensure to exclusively use local, family run, suppliers for all their ingredients.

At the end of 2023 the shop under the Millennium roller coaster received a substantial facelift, so you can enjoy your chippy dinner in style!

Chapel St Leonards

The Marina Fish & Chips

Only a few steps away from the beach, The Marina has some incredibly impressive awards to shout about. Most notable are being in the Top 40 UK National Fish and Chip Award of the Year in 2023, and a Top 10 finalist in 2024!

As you can tell from these awards, The Marina has great food on offer with a variety of fish, fried chicken and sausages, hand crafted butcher pies, and all the traditional sides you know and love.

The marina pride themselves on only using MSC Certified fish, which ensures their fish is caught sustainably and can even trace the vessel the fish came from; even down to when and where the fish was caught in the ocean. The potatoes used for their chips are sourced locally too; coming from just 10 miles from the shop.

Village Chippy

On South Road, not much further from the beach than The Marina, is the Village Chippy, a well-established part of the Chapel St Leonards seaside experience, as the shop opened over 50 years ago in 1973.

After stepping inside you’ll be greeted with classic fish & chips to top off the perfect day at the coast. Dogs are welcome inside the chippy too, so you and your four-legged friends can relax after a long stroll on the beach.

Sutton On Sea

Waldo’s Fish & Chips

Waldo’s can be found on High Street, just a short walk from the Sutton on Sea beach. Enjoy a classic fresh fish & chips, as you take in the views across the beach.

If you’re not one for traditional battered haddock or cod, don’t worry, Waldo’s has plenty of other fried goodies to interest you. Enjoy chicken steaks and nuggets, various pies and burgers, or a good-old battered sausage and curry sauce combo.

Mablethorpe

Salty’s Mablethorpe

Just a stone's throw from Mablethorpe’s seafront on the High Street, you’ll find Salty’s restaurant and takeaway, making this chippy a great stop to recharge with some tasty food.

Like most great chippies Salty’s offers more than delicious fish & chips, like pies, sausages, fishcake, burgers, nuggets, and more; so, whatever you fancy you’ll find authentic and tasty seaside food.

Whether you visit in rain or shine, you’ll be able to enjoy your meal thanks to Salty’s indoor and outdoor seating, as well as communal seating nearby; so, you’ll never be left standing on the busy days when everyone wants this seaside staple.

St Anne’s Fish & Chip Restaurant & Takeaway

Situated on Victoria Road, and very close to the coastal attractions is St Anne’s, which is particularly popular thanks to their delivery services. So, whether you want to pop into their restaurant after enjoying the beach and nearby attractions, or order to your door in the evening, the choice is yours.

St Anne’s is known for more than fish and chips; their freshly made pizzas are particularly popular. They also offer kebabs, pies, chicken dishes, burgers, and more. Gluten free options are also available, so no one needs to miss out on a delicious seaside treat.

Lincolnshire Coastal Country Park

Joe’s Plaice

Joe’s Plaice, known formerly as Seawaves, can be found on Sea Lane in Saltfleet. Joe’s makes for a convenient visit if you’re staying in any of the surrounding caravan parks, including Manor Farm Caravan Park or Jolly Common Caravan Park for a tasty dinner. Alternatively, you can take advantage of Joe’s outdoor seating area as you enjoy your meal or enjoy it as you stroll along the beach.

The main battered fish on their menu is always haddock, but if that doesn’t take your fancy you can also choose from a selection of pies, sausages, and classics section with everything else you’d expect, from fishcake butties to scampi.

Joe’s also provides a small meal offer for children and pensioners, which still offers a reasonable meal portion, making this perfect for not being too full while charging up and down the beach!
