Summer Fun....

Looking for ideas on what you can get up to this summer? Then check out our suggestions below to help you make the most of the months ahead...

1. A day ‘Beside the Seaside’ - Hire a beach hut and set up a base for the day at one of our award-winning beaches and enjoy the vast expanses of sand and sea; go for a paddle or even a swim (make sure you stay between the flags!), build a sandcastle, have a donkey ride on one of ‘Britain’s Best Donkeys’ then fish & chips for lunch followed by an ice cream and maybe a doughnut or 2!!

2. Get into the Carnival spirit this summer – Prepare to be entertained at the Sutton on Sea Carnival on 31st July, with activities throughout the day from 11am, this year’s parade is themed “60 years of popular music” and gets underway at 3pm…. Or you can head to Skegness for a full week of Carnival fun from 14th August, the week kicks off with a Family Fun Day and Carnival Parade, themed “Myths and Legends”. The week will continue with a host of free events, including the popular Baby Show and Pet Show..

3. Enjoy the sounds of the summer – Batemans Brewery will once again be hosting the popular ‘Bands on the Bank’, sit back and relax and enjoy the sounds of some fantastic bands whilst enjoying a pint or delicious ice cream or maybe something from the BBQ, or all 3 and more! ….If you’re still in the mood for music then take a trip to Mablethorpe on the 27th & 28th August for a weekend of live music, enjoy various performances around the town during the day culminating in live bands on the beachfront on both Saturday and Sunday evenings from 7pm-10pm.

4. Get back to nature – Take a stroll along the stunning beach at one of Lincolnshire’s Hidden Gems, Anderby Creek.Enjoy the peace and tranquility of this idyllic hideaway, walk along the shoreline and see what treasures you can find, then head to the sand dunes and visit the UK’s first Cloud Bar, pull up a chair and watch the clouds go by at this purpose-built cloud viewing platform, complete with swiveling mirrors!

5. Experience the sights, sounds and smells of wartime Britain - Feel what life was like in the RAF during World War II at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, sited on an original Second World War airfield. The resident Lancaster Bomber, Just Jane is regularly brought out to taxi visitors up and down the original runway – the only place in Europe you can do this! Then take a trip to nearby RAF Coningsby, home to the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight see the historic aircraft at close quarters and learn all about them from the expert guides.And if you fancy a bite to eat then a visit to the Petwood Hotel, Woodhall Spa is a must, once the officers’ mess for the famous ‘Dambusters’, there is a dedicated Squadron Bar packed with artefacts and memorabilia from their epic flights.

6. Think Lincolnshire is flat? Think again! – A visit to the Lincolnshire Wolds, Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty will soon change your mind. Leave the car parked up and enjoy the glorious scenery on foot, or take a bike ride through landscapes that might have been designed with cyclists in mind. Explore quiet picturesque villages and vibrant market towns then treat yourself to lunch at one of the many tearooms and pubs along the way. This countryside will take your breath away.
