Lincolnshire Leading the Way in Luxury Holidays

Lap up luxury with cottages.com

Lincolnshire has been named one of the country’s best kept secrets for a luxury break, according to data released in time for World Tourism Day (27th September 2018).

Latest figures from the UK’s leading cottage holiday company, cottages.com, reveal that a fifth of the brand’s properties in Lincolnshire are featured within its Luxury Collection and that 93 per cent of its portfolio throughout the county hold Grade Four or Grade Five status – beating the national average by 15 per cent. Given that more than a quarter (29 per cent) of its properties also feature a hot tub, the region is fast becoming the go-to destination for a luxurious staycation.

However, the secret appears to be getting out as booking figures suggest that more holidaymakers are packing their bags for a lavish Lincolnshire break. Bookings over the peak period of 2018 rose by 14 per cent, with reservations around August Bank Holiday also increasing by 12 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Lincoln and Skegness have welcomed the largest influx of visitors, celebrating increases of 48 and 12 per cent respectively – with coastal destinations drawing an extra 24 per cent year on year.

It’s not only people that can make the most of the fantastic experiences that await though, as 70 per cent of cottages.com’s properties in the area welcome pets; some are even included in the brand’s new More Than Dog Friendly Collection, allowing people and pets to feel as pampered as possible during their holiday.

Simon Altham, Managing Director - Revenue at cottages.com commented: “With a breadth of accommodation options available in the county, it’s no surprise that Lincolnshire is showing all the signs of becoming a popular holiday destination for those looking to holiday at home. Whether it’s a break with the immediate family, or an escape with a large group of friends – it’s a great place to visit, and there is an amazing range of properties for guests to call home for a short break.”

Harriet Lawton, a representative for Visit Lincs Coast, added: “It’s great to see that the Lincolnshire Coast is being recognised as one of the best tourist destinations in the country. The latest VisitEngland research shows that 9 out of 20 top domestic holidays are on the coast and Skegness was voted third out of coastal destinations and seventh in England overall. The area has experienced an influx of 100,000 visitors between 2016 to 2017, which in turn has seen the value of the visitor economy increase by £39 million. The local community has reaped the rewards from the increase in tourism to the area, with employment within the sector rising by 269 from 2016 to 2017.”
