Our First Vintage Seaside Festival

This weekend saw the first ever Vintage Seaside Festival in Skegness brought to you by the Visit Lincs Coast Team!

The event kicked off on Saturday morning with Tower Gardens in Skegness being packed full of things to do and see throughout the day and following on into the Sunday. Saturday morning saw the park begin to fill with market traders unloading all of their vintage goods ready to showcase to everybody attending. We had an amazing variety of things on offer such as Vintage clothing, gifts, handmade items, vinyl, plants and so much more.

To the right of the market we had some beautiful classic cars on display which attracted constant attention over the weekend. We had a mixture of cars on display all in perfect condition with the owners brimming with information which they were more than happy to share with the visitors of the festival. We was also joined by Lincolnshire's very own Vintage Bus which was kindly presented by Stage Coach over the course of the two days. The Village in Skegness also contributed by bringing along their stationary engine which was running all day too!

Traditional seaside entertainment was available for our younger attendees such as our inflatable helter skelter and chair-o-plane amusement rides. We had three showings of Punch and Judy on both days which seemed to be an absolute hit with the children whilst bringing back some of that seaside nostalgia to the parents.

The festival was catered by 'Vinteage' who specialise in afternoon tea and they did not disappoint with an array of home-made cakes and sandwiches whilst keeping with the vintage theme, along with Husky's and their Vintage Ice Cream van. If you fancied something a little stronger than tea 'Pin Gin' were situated within the tent serving locally distilled gin and elderflower tonic... which we can confirm went down a treat!

On Saturday afternoon we had two performances from the Blight Belles who were situated at the newly developed Pier Beach Bar which filled quickly which was no surprise as they were brilliant!

Saturday evening was the night of our outdoor cinema which after a few (A LOT) heavy showers still managed to go ahead with a great turn out! We showed Grease which was celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. The rain didn't dampen anybody's spirits as everybody was up out of their seats dancing away to the final song!

Sunday we did it all again with the addition of the Silver Band performing at Compass Gardens!

Not forgetting 52nd Street Jump who provided non-stop entertainment in the band stand in Tower Gardens including dance lessons for everybody who wanted to get involved! The atmosphere you created was perfect for the weekend.

As this was our first Vintage Seaside Festival we feel it was a huge success and we are looking forward to growing it year on year!

'We are a renowned traditional seaside resort and everyone we have spoken to over the weekend have shared memories and stories of their visits over the years. There is much love for Skegness, our heritage and nostalgia. The children loved the traditional rides and Punch and Judy. The stall holders at the vintage market had a great weekend and already want to book next year. The live entertainment from the Blighty Belles, Skegness Silver Band and Lincolnshire Lindy Hop clubs was especially well received and it was lovely to see people dressed up for the event and joining in the fun. I have no doubts that this event will grow rapidly and become a firm favourite in our events programme. I would like to thank everyone that supported us and now we will begin planning for next year.' - Lisa Collins BID Manager.
