World Ocean Day - June 8th

The weekend of 8th - 10th June will see us deliver a 3-day sand sculpting event with workshops, competitions and giant sculptures along Mablethorpe Beach. This fun filled weekend is free to attend and will focus on the issues surrounding coastal pollution and the threat of single use plastic to our coastline. We will be working with Sand In Your Eye sand sculptors, Anglian Water, Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust to bring to you a weekend full of activities.

With the National and International coverage of plastic filled coastlines and the issues surrounding plastic pollution there is no better time to look to introduce this event and address some of these issues. The popularity of Blue Planet II on BBC and the media coverage currently has helped to draw attention to the themes around this event and has shown that there is a real need to change the way we look at the use of plastic in our lives.

The weekend will be a great way to engage with the public to highlight the problems surrounding single use plastic and the amount of pollution reaching our coastline. There will also be Mad Science shows throughout Saturday as well as competitions and nature trails. On Sunday we will be having a giant sand sculpting competition for your chance to win great prizes. This event will be the start in us trying to establish Mablethorpe as the first Plastic Free Coastline along the East Coast. Hopefully many more areas will follow and as well as our amazing blue flag beaches we can also be recognised as a plastic free coastline.
